Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn is an award winning Uilleann Piper from Monaghan who has been playing the Uilleann Pipes since the age of nine with Armagh Pipers Club. He has achieved four All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil titles, two in An t-Oireachtas, and in 2013, the Seán O Riada Bonn Óir award.
An influential exponent of his instrument, he has been highly commended in reviews for his precise articulate playing which has seen him touring and performing professionally since 1995 both as a member of various bands and as a solo performer. His music has taken him to Europe, United States, Asia, Africa, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.
He has performed with numerous musicians over the years, including Tommy Peoples, Laoise Kelly, Paul O Shaughnessy, Brian Finnegan and brothers Niall and Cillian Vallely. He toured with Máire Ní Bhraonáin (Clannad) from 1997-2001, recording on two albums with her, and he has recorded with many other different artists; his music has also featured on two films.
In 2015 his performance gained him an award from the Irish Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to purchase uilleann pipes in furtherance of his career. He has played and presented radio and television. programmes for BBC, RTE and TG4 and features on several albums, notably with his partner Stephanie, a singer who is great-grand-daughter of Sarah Makem, and on CDs by Moya Brennan (Whisper to the Wild Water & Two Horizons), Na Dorsa (The Wild Music of the Gael), Dana (Dana’s Ireland) and Hazel O’Connor (Beyond the Breaking Glass). He has been playing in the Compánach concert with Gerry O’Connor and Fintan Vallely since 2013.
