The full A-Z list of individual articles: There are c. 1,800 items here representing a variety of article and information pieces from as little as 5 to as great as 2,000 words. The overall book has c. 485,000 words of A-Z information and an additional 75,000 words in the form of introduction, contributor data, timeline, bibliography and index. Many individual names and topics which are not in the A-Z listing appear (some very frequently) in the course of the full run of the articles, typically listed under the relevant region, topic or instrument. There are c. 650 biographies, and additional (short) biographies can be found in the ‘writers’ section, while more than 4,500 additional names appear in the INDEX pages. With the advantage of the web adjunct to this book, additional biography and other articles will be progressively added, aiming towards a full – and flexible – live, on-line, phone app and digital edition in the coming year.

Web Links: These will be added gradually in order to expand the knowledge potential of The Companion out beyond what is in the printed articles to the broader world of the music. Contributions and links are welcomed and should be sent to the editor by email using ‘companion links’ in the subject line.

Development: This list is as yet incomplete. It is a slow process, as the articles are progressively imported back from the design/typesetting software, this involving translation issues related to formatting, accents and typography.
